This month during the Art Walk Edmonds, Cascadia Art Museum is excited to feature regional artist Rob Vetter! Rob will be demonstrating his 2×4 landscape work on wood from 5-8 pm on November 16.
Rob Vetter is an avid collector of both art and art objects. He endeavored to create a painting that could sit anywhere as well as an object that drew upon his skills as a landscape painter. The 2×4 Landscape was born. Rob’s paintings reflect the natural beauty of the parks surrounding his south Seattle home, as well as the varied geographies and biomes he encounters on his travels throughout Washington State.
Rob handpicks his cedar 2x4s from a local hardware store. The wood is then cut into lengths, the landscape is painted, and the piece is sanded. That’s it. Each 2×4 Landscape is chronologically numbered and signed. Each has a hole for hanging on a slanted nail, and can be placed anywhere.
Ever since visiting the studio of one of his father’s favorite artists as a child, Rob knew he wanted to be a landscape painter. He graduated from Western Washington University with a BFA in painting in 1997, and has been a working landscape painter since 2004. He has been making 2×4 Landscapes since 2012. He has made over five hundred so far.
