Cascadia is thrilled to host Writers-in-Conversation, our monthly series featuring award-winning author Michael N. McGregor interviewing important but often-overlooked Northwest writers. In partnership with the Edmonds Book Shop, the program highlights the thoughts, creativity, and work of authors who are shaping and bringing diversity to the Northwest literary scene today.

On November 12th, McGregor will be talking with non-fiction author Thomas Kohnstamm. Born and raised in Seattle, Kohnstamm is a freelance writer and has run his own video and animation studio for over a decade. He has published three books, including the dark comedy titled Lake City published by Counterpoint Press in January 2019. His most recent book, Supersonic, is a multi-generational saga that follows interconnected families in a Seattle neighborhood across time as the city grew and changed. Kohnstamm lives in Seattle with his wife, two children and their dog, Tuna.

McGregor is a Seattle-based author whose biography Pure Act: The Uncommon Life of Robert Lax was a finalist for a Washington State Book Award and whose novel The Last Grand Tour was a Kirkus Reviews Best Indie Book of the Year. After growing up in Seattle, he earned a BA in journalism at the University of Oregon and an MFA in creative writing at Columbia University. A former professor of creative writing, he has published essays and stories in a wide variety of publications and covered theater for Seattle Weekly and the Oregonian.
