Members are invited to join us on Wednesday, October 23 from 5 to 8 pm for the opening of our end of year exhibition The Lavender Palette: Gay Culture and the Art of Washington State! Be one of the first to experience the new show, and enjoy complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres while you celebrate the opening with the Cascadia Art Museum community.
This groundbreaking exhibition and catalogue, the first study of regional gay culture in the United States, will document the activities of Washington state’s gay and lesbian artists active from 1910 though 1970. Featured artists include Guy Anderson (1906-1998), Morris Graves (1910-2001), Thomas Handforth (1897-1948), Mac Harshberger (1900-1975), Delbert McBride (1920-1998), Orre Nelson Nobles (1894-1967), Malcolm Roberts (1913-1990), Mark Tobey (18901-976), Clifford Wright (1919-1999), Virginia Weisel (1923-2017), and several others.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue written by our curator David F. Martin with a special chapter written by David L. Chapman that will concentrate on depictions of Northwest male physical culture through illustrations and photography of the early to mid-20th century.
RSVP is required, if you plan to attend please email us at [email protected]. If you would like to attend but are not yet a member of the museum, check out our membership prices and benefits on our Membership Page!
