Saturday, January 10th at 6:00 p.m.
In honor of Cascadia Art Museum’s exhibit “Objects of the Elements: The Art of Elsa Thoresen,” Cassie Lear (flute) and Steven Luksan (piano/composer) will present a program of music for flute and piano written by Norwegian and American composers. Featured are works by composers who strove to meld the musical traditions of their homelands with the newest trends in 20th Century musical practice, including three composers who studied with the famed pedagogue Nadia Boulanger in Paris (Aaron Copland, Anne-Marie Ørbeck and Øistein Sommerfeldt) and Harald Sæverud, who (along with his American wife) was a leading figure in the resistance in occupied Norway during WWII. Also on the program is a suite for flute and piano by Seattle composer Steven Luksan. Introduction by our curator David Martin.
Cascadia’s concert series is a unique opportunity to enjoy leading classical performers up close, in our intimate gallery setting surrounded by beautiful art from the Northwest – the way chamber music was meant to be experienced!
Your ticket includes admission to all the museum galleries, so make sure you come early to see our current exhibits. Our concerts are about one-hour in length starting at 6 PM, leaving you time to dine out after — altogether a perfect evening.
Seating is limited and these concerts often sell-out, so please we suggest reserving your seats well in advance.
