Leo Kenney (1925-2001) was one of the most celebrated regional artists of the mid-20th century. He achieved success at an early age with works that combine Surrealism with his own unique interpretations of Northwest iconography. He worked primarily in oil and water-based mediums such as gouache and tempera. As his career was ascending locally, he had a brief interlude in California until returning to Seattle in 1964 to great critical acclaim and with a new emphasis on geometric abstraction.
