For our second “Virtual Visit” during Cascadia’s temporary closure, we are delighted to introduce you to Shelley and Tom, two of Cascadia’s wonderful docents.

Docents are volunteers who help interpret the art and its historical context for our visitors. Docents go through training to learn about art history and the history of Cascadia to help guests get the most out of their visit to the museum!

In this Virtual Visit, Shelley will guide us as we study Summertime, a painting by Emma Kaan that is featured prominently in our Northwest Collects exhibition at Cascadia.

Did you know that volunteers contributed more than 6,400 hours of service to Cascadia Art Museum last year? This is just one of the reasons we LOVE our volunteers!

The museum relies on our dedicated community of volunteers to help make the museum the best it can be. In addition to docents, volunteers serve as gallery guides, store attendants, and even help with special events. Once we’re able to open to the public, we hope you’ll come learn more about our volunteer program. We’d love for you to join our Cascadia volunteer community!

You can also support the museum during this challenging time by making your donation online. If you have enjoyed these Virtual Visits so far, consider donating the cost of admission. Your $10 “ticket” donation would mean a great deal in helping to replace lost revenue from ticket sales during this closure.

Stay tuned for new art projects coming to you from our virtual “Studio Cascadia” next week.

Be well, and thank you for being part of our Cascadia community.
